Top Chiro Charity Trip To India
Our charity trip to India began with a desire to help and give back to more people in the world. So when this opportunity to go to India came up, we took it!
‘Incredible’ ‘is the best word to summarise this trip. We were picked up from Ahmedabad airport and driven 4 hours north to the top of Mount Abu, where we were welcomed by the Brahma Kumaris (a spiritual organisation who focus on soul consciousness through the means of meditation). They organised our whole itinerary, gave us a place to stay, prepared food for us, and took us out each evening to show us the different sights on the mountain, among many other things. We are very grateful for all they provided and for going above and beyond each day.
When we arrived at the hospital, we were given a small room next to the physiotherapy department, and the doctors there were happy for us to use as much of their space as we needed. We also sent an influx of people to the radiology department to get X-rays. Throughout the week we worked closely with the doctors there and they were extremely helpful with all the patients we saw.
On the first day, a steady flow of patients came in to see us – we saw approximately 50 people throughout the day. When the patients came in to see us, Vee communicated with them in Hindi about the problems and symptoms they were experiencing. Dr Christian would then examine them, check and adjust them, and invite them back the next day for a follow-up. Later that evening, we discussed what went well and expressed the idea of wanting to help more people. Little did we know that’s the news about the “doctor from London” was being spread all throughout the mountain.
Over the following days we saw over 100 people daily, and with the increased numbers we had an increase in adversities. We very quickly learned that Indians aren’t so fond of lining up or waiting. However, as the days went on and they began to see the benefits of chiropractic, they were happy to wait, would bring us gifts and were filled with gratitude.
Patients arrived in enthusiastic spirits, showing us how they could now lift their arm (when they were not able to before), telling us it was the first time were able to sleep through the night in years, that their chronic migraines had eased, that they were able to digest their food more easily and so much more.
The most rewarding success story was one of a 9-month-old boy who had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy and was unable to support the weight of his head. By the third day of working with him, he was able to hold his head up and look at his dad.
We saw a host of various health issues including Parkinson’s, migraines, tinnitus, digestive issues, and strokes. We saw clients ranging from 9 months old to 90 years old! We learnt as much as we educated, and gained so much motivation and appreciation for the work that we provide. The patients begged us to come back and so we plan to continue our work in India next February. The appreciation and gratitude they showed for us really touched our hearts, and we cannot wait to be back out there helping them live their best lives!
